I love sci fi!! I have always loved sci fi and fantasy. From grade school- the first subject I remember perking up & being excited about was the Greek & Roman mythology.
I also love television. But admitting that before Netfix & binge watching became almost fashionable was similar to admitting one liked gambling or crack or McDonalds - you just didn’t do it unless you wanted a lecture or intervention.
So of course my favorite TV genre has & will always be sci fi. It just wasn’t until I recently discovered that there are whole internet Fandoms devoted to celebrating (instead of shaming) massive & continuous watching / re-watching of my favorite sci fi shows that I decided to embrace my inner geek.
I’ve had many ppl ask why I suddenly became interested (bc of my many posts) in sci fi. So I want to set the record straight.
1- I’ve been in love with the genre since Mork & Buck Rogers. There is nothing new about this.
2- it feeds my creativity. It makes me think. It’s one thing to try to figure out on a show “who done it,” so add figuring out which dimension they did it in… Makes my brain happy.
3- Sci fi was the first place in TV or movies to show that if u are smart & strong then it doesn’t matter your gender, race, sexual orientation, or even if you are human- good characters are good characters & are good stories. So the most important thing is to be yourself & be the best version of yourself.
4- you can’t have good without evil, & everyone is made up of both. I think this is why I have found most sci fi characters are more realistic than most shows. Luke has to resist the dark side & Darth Vader can find redemption. Sci fi doesn’t shame your darkness- it lets you embrace the light & understand the dark we feel.
5- the special effects & fight scenes & costumes & make up & lighting & camera angles & cars/gadgets are COOL!
So please feel free to embrace your nerdyness and geek out with me.
A story fueled by Fandom love, random tweets with @LissieRT and @AshleyDCarroll and a lot of wine:
A loveably tall Supernatural Moose is sitting outside enjoying the sunshine (of course with his phaser set to stun) while he is on break from Starfleet Academy. Suddenly, a Dalek appears out of…
Can someone please explain to me why it is socially acceptable to hate someone for shipping differently than you?
To me, that would be the same as if I began hating someone for liking country music because I prefer rock. Or hating someone because I prefer the color green & they like Orange.
